LG-GD910 3G Wrist Phone

Just when you thought that only third-rate hardware manufacturers of weird gizmos would come up with watch phones, along comes a giant like LG to reveal their LG-GD910 - touted to be the first 3G HSDPA watch phone in the world. This model allows you to hold a video call over your wrist, while you get to play around with a 1.43" color touchscreen LCD display, coupled with MP3 playback and Text-To-Speech capability for easier "reading" of text messages when they arrive in your inbox. The LG-GD910 will target both Korean and European markets, and we'll definitely try to get a closer look at it next month at CES 2009 in Las Vegas. Watch this space!

LG isn’t known to produce phones with rather quirky and unfamiliar form factors. However, this is about to change, as the company is set to debut its very first 3G-enabled wrist phone, in the form of the LG-GD910. It’s a phone with a twist that fits on your wrist.
The LG-GD910 might not look like much, but it’s a fully functional mobile phone that even supports video calls. It will be officially unveiled in public on January at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2009. It is expected to be made available in Europe initially.

Here are the first few shots of the LG GD910 Watch Phone We first saw the LG Watch Phone last year at CES 2008, but it was behind glass and no one was allowed to really see how it all worked. This year, however, LG plans to break it out of the display case. At the LG press conference a few minutes ago, they demonstrated a real working prototype of the watch phone and it looks to be a real must-have for the spy wannabe in your life. It has a touch-screen user interface (!), three side-mounted buttons, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and even a full-blown music player. It's water resistant, and it'll feature 3G HSDPA, which leads us to think it may come to AT&T some time this year.
UPDATE: We've just got more details about the watch phone. It has tempered glass, a high-quality metal casing, and is around 13.9mm thick. The touch screen itself is 1.43 inches diagonally, and features LG's Flash interface. Features include voice recognition, Text to Speech so it can read out text messages, and stereo Bluetooth. However, the huge disappointment is that the watch phone will be Europe-only (insert sad face here). We think it may still be compatible with local GSM networks, but only time will tell (apologies for the bad pun).
UPDATE 2: More updates on the Watch Phone. LG has just told us that the Watch Phone will have quad-band GSM, and that the 3G/HSDPA will be compatible with AT&T's frequency. So even if it is Europe-only, you could potentially get one unlocked and use it here. We'll see if we can get more news about pricing and availability.

Screen SizeUsers looking for a unique display screen option will be pleased with the HB620T's 2 inch TFT screen. The device's display offers 256K colors and 320 x 240 pixels. Rather than orienting the screen in the typical clamshell tall (or portrait) configuration, LG has flipped the display on its side, offering a wide (landscape) orientation for maximum compatibility with TV viewing.
While the screen orientation is useful, users may lament the relatively small size of the primary display screen, as other devices featuring television-viewing capabilities dwarf the LG HB620T in screen size by as much as .8 inches.
The HB620T also features a secondary external TFT display screen with 65K colors. The secondary display screen boasts 96 x 34 pixels of resolution.
Battery SpecificationsUnfortunately, the very technology that makes the LG HB620T so appealing (DVB-T), also creates significant battery drain. The device is equipped with a standard Lithium-Ion 1000 mAh battery, which according to the manufacturer’s specifications provides over 3 and a half hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby, although users' experience has shown a rapid sapping of battery power due to the DVB-T feature.
Camera CapabilitiesA 2 MP camera is included with the device, providing 1600x1200 pixel photography. Capturing video is also possible with the phone's built-in camera
Peripheral FeaturesThe HB620T comes loaded with the features users would expect from an LG Electronics phone. The device includes HSDPA as well as Bluetooth connectivity (v2.0 with A2DP). Users can make use of SMS, MMS, and email capabilities with the device's browser (WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML). A 7.2 mbps maximum download speed allows users to access streaming multimedia content.
T9 predictive text software is included, as are an MPEG-4/3gp player, an MP3/MMf/WAV/eAAC+/WMA/SMAF/i-Melody player, and organizer software. Users will be able to access a record of up to 40 dialed, 40 received, and 40 missed calls. The LG HB620T also supports up to 4GB microSD via an expansion slot (the phone has 100 MB built-in memory).

Sometimes a phone arrives that we just can't believe. Literally, it takes our breath away. And if we're honest, the LG Viewty is one of the most mind-blowing mobile phones we've ever seen!
Absolutely Viewtiful
First off, the most obvious question: why have LG named it Viewty? Well, when we looked in the urban dictionary, which is where LG got the name, this is what we found:
Viewtiful: Something flashy or stylish. Someone with superpowers.
Yep, both of those summarise the LG Viewty rather exactly, actually! It's built on top of the same Flash operating system as the Prada, with a huge touchscreen, or in other words, it's simply fabulous to use. Incidentally, the animated background with the goldfish in a pond, that follows your finger around, is, it's possible, the single coolest thing we've ever seen!
Ultimate Camera
Actually, we take that back. That accolade goes to the camera on the LG Viewty! Weighing in at a substantial 5 megapixels, it will give you crisp, beautiful photos. However, not content with giving it 5 megapixels, LG have also packed it full of features that are quite honestly stunning. So, you get the latest Schneider-Kreuznach lenses, image stabiliser (you just can't beat anti-shake for amazing pictures), ISO8000 Smartlight (for super sharp night shots) and coolest of all, manual focus. You want to make the subject of your photo stand out? Simply touch that bit of it on the LG Viewty's screen, and it focuses in on your friend, or pet, or whatever. That's not just novel, it's awesomely useful, too!
The LG Viewty can also record super-high quality video. As well as that, but you can slide it into 120 frames-per-second mode, and then capture slow-motion action shots, in the mould of John Woo. Then you can edit shots in sequence, to make your own blockbuster. Oh, and after that, with one button press, you can instantly upload the whole masterpiece onto Youtube. It doesn't get much cooler than that! Now factor in even more cool stuff, like Google Maps, and lots of media options, and it makes the LG Viewty one serious contender for best phone in the world.
